American Friends of the Bambi Homes is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that manages the fundraising efforts in the US for the Bambi Homes Colombia.
Bambi Homes Colombia is a non-profit organization, whose main objective is to help underprivileged children and their families from the shantytowns in Colombia. Currently there are seven Protection Homes located in Bogotá, Cali, Darién, Marinilla and Medellín.
Bambi Homes takes in at-risk children who are in danger of or have suffered from physical or sexual abuse, neglect, parents’ or guardians’ substance abuse, or conditions related to extreme poverty, such as malnutrition and respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. Many of the children Bambi Homes protects are victims of displacement due to the country’s lengthy civil war, which has plagued the countryside and rural areas of Colombia, forcing families into urban areas with little opportunity for employment.
Parents facing hard times are welcome to bring their children to Bambi Homes, whose caregivers, physicians, nurses, nutritionists, psychologists and social workers care for the children for as long as parents need to get back on their feet.
