Bambi Homes Colombia is committed to providing integrated early childhood services to guarantee a better beginning to abandoned, homeless and at-risk children up to six years old. We provide education, basic health services and room and board for children in vulnerable situations (abandonment, homelessness, child labor and abuse).
Bambi Homes was founded in 1985 by Dr. Rupert Spillmann, a Swiss physician who after working in tropical disease research in Cali decided to found the first Bambi home to provide services to abandoned children in marginalized areas of the city. In 1989 the Swiss Foundation was created and has since championed the continuation of Dr. Spillmann legacy.
Since its inception the foundation has expanded significantly to serve nearly 1,000 children annually, operating four homes located in Cali, Darien, Medellin, and Bogota. Through an effective partnership model with the public sector, Bambi Homes has become a model on how to successfully deliver integrative early childhood services.
In 2003 a group of supporters of Bambi Homes created American Friends of Bambi Homes Colombia as a 501(c) 3 organization with the sole purpose of funding specific projects to expand and improve the services provided by Bambi Homes in Colombia.
